App-V Full Infrastructure is End of Life. Now What?

April 14, 2026 brings App-V Full Infrastructure End of Life

Microsoft App-V full infrastructure has now reached end-of-life. For many in the End User Computing (EUC) community it feels like the end of an era.

Over the years, I worked with a number of organizations that attempted to move away from the App-V Full Infrastructure and deploy App-V packages through alternative methods, such as Configuration Manager. In theory, this approach offered a simpler architecture. In practice, however, the results were often mixed.

What we repeatedly found was that the performance delivered by the App-V publishing servers was difficult to replicate. Because of that, many organizations ultimately chose to continue running the full App-V infrastructure rather than compromise on the user experience.

As a result, there are likely still organizations today that depend on parts of the App-V infrastructure for delivering certain applications. It was a solution that many administrators genuinely appreciated for its reliability and performance.

What Does App-V Full Infrastructure End of Life Mean for You?

At Numecent, we’ve always had a deep respect for what App-V brought to application virtualization. If you are one of the organizations still running the App-V infrastructure today, you may be asking an obvious question: what happens next?

The good news is that Microsoft has rescinded the deprecation of the App-V client and the App-V sequencer, meaning organizations can continue creating and running App-V packages. The challenge, however, is that the App-V full infrastructure itself is no longer supported.

The key point here is that the end of the infrastructure does not mean the end of your App-V packages.

Cloudpager Enables App-V Packages to Run Beyond End of Life

There is a clear path for your existing App-V packages on modern and future Windows endpoints with our Cloudpager platform. All you have to do is take your existing App-V packages and upload them directly to the admin console. From there, Cloudpager automatically optimizes those packages using Cloudpaging’s application container technology.

This approach provides several advantages. It eliminates the need for App-V connection groups, while also introducing capabilities such as granular application usage reporting, improved application compatibility, and policy-driven delivery features (Policies in the Cloudpager console). Some of these Policies features include software asset management policies, delivery policies, and trust policies. All are available to optimized App-V packages without hefty manual administration like repackaging projects require. Again, these optimizations occur automatically when App-V packages are uploaded.

Leverage DevOps Capabilities to Manage App-V Applications

Perhaps most importantly for organizations familiar with App-V, Cloudpager maintains the high-quality application delivery experience that many administrators valued in the App-V infrastructure, while also bringing the scalability and flexibility of a cloud-native platform.

Cloudpager runs on Numecent’s global cloud infrastructure, which has supported enterprise customers in production for more than a decade. The platform is designed to deliver applications quickly, consistently, and reliably across modern endpoint environments.

Additionally, Cloudpager’s application optimization capabilities allow organizations to quickly roll back application updates if an issue occurs, an important safeguard when deploying changes at scale.

So, while the retirement of the App-V full infrastructure marks the closing of an important chapter in application virtualization, it does not mean organizations must abandon the App-V packages they have invested in over the years.

With the right platform, those packages can continue to be delivered efficiently while also gaining capabilities that extend far beyond what the original App-V infrastructure provided.
