Unify application management across Citrix DaaS and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) with Cloudpager
Numecent customers have managed their applications in Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops using Cloudpaging application containers for years. Whilst the benefits of having applications virtualized on demand into a Citrix session and run as a container has been a huge boon for customers, the process of managing those applications in Citrix Studio has been manual. This has been cumbersome process until now.
We are delighted to announce Numecent Cloudpager support in Citrix App Packages which streamlines the publishing of Cloudpaging application containers to employees via Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (see our joint press release here). This integration no longer requires manually creating a new application and entering launch commands and relevant ids to publish Cloudpaging application containers in Citrix Storefront with Citrix App Packages, the process becomes a simple as creating a discovery profile, allowing Citrix Studio to retrieve the list of application containers from your Cloudpager tenant and then assigning those applications to your Delivery Groups of choice.
However, seeing is believing. Check out the video below to see how simple the process is.
Cloudpaging Containers Can Reduce Application Management Complexity and Costs for Citrix DaaS and CVAD
By utilizing Cloudpaging application containers you can get to a single golden image, this is because the application applications are virtualized dynamically for employees within their Citrix session, this means no more installing applications into an image and provisioning desktops or servers to that version of an image, it can happen outside of the desktop provisioning process.
In the past, enterprises have been made false promises about application modernization products and their rate of compatibility only to find out the solution on offer didn’t scale well and did not work for a significant percentage of their application estate. Numecent Cloudpaging application containers are different. Cloudpaging can handle the applications other solutions cannot. For example, Numecent customers deliver products like Visual Studio and Autodesk Revit as containers. Typical limitations in other formats like drivers, COM+ component services and more can be packaged and delivered in Cloudpaging application containers.
Cloudpaging application containers feature granular control over isolation down to the file level, which means applications you have encountered inthat past that may have conflicted and led to image sprawl in your CVAD environment can be tackled with containers, helping you achieve that single Golden image and reduce infrastructure. This can lead to significant cost savings both in hardware spent and in reducing IT operational overhead.
With Cloudpaging containers you also have a solution to bring forward stubborn legacy applications that you may be hosting on a dated version of the Windows operating system or even a dated version of the Citrix VDA for compatibility reasons.
Being able to deliver 98%+ of applications dynamically drastically changes the management of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. It shifts the effort away from image updates and regression testing of image changes. It eliminates OS rot creeping into images and provides a truly modern approach to application management.
Establish a Path Forward for Existing App-V Packages
Since Citrix has supported and integrated with the App-V Full Infrastructure for over a decade, there is undoubtedly still some customers who are delivering App-V packages in this way.
In fact, the Citrix App Packages feature itself includes an option to point to an existing App-V Server. Unfortunately, the App-V Full Infrastructure is going End of Life on April 14, 2026. To continue getting the kind of dynamic delivery you got with the App-V Publishing Servers whilst gaining simpler application interoperability and a higher compatibility, Cloudpager is the answer. Cloudpager can optimize existing App-V packages and then deliver them via Citrix App Packages.
AI Packaging to Tackle the Ever Increasing Workload
Cloudpager also provides AI Packaging which can be used to automate the packaging of many applications into the Cloudpaging container format. If you struggle with frequent application updates in your Citrix environment, AI Packaging can assist. After AI packages the most recent update to an application in your environment, the update is delivered dynamically with no need to provision desktops or servers to an updated vDisk/MCS snapshot.
In a time of ever-increasing application updates and concerns from enterprises about allowing auto-updates to occur with little to no visibility of when changes may happen, AI Packaging provides a welcome solution for reducing the effort required for application update intake and a way to manage the updates with oversight and control.
Flexible Infrastructure Design: Optionally Host Application Cache Locally
While the default behavior when consuming applications delivered with Cloudpager is via its CDN, Cloudpager features multi-location support for the application cache. The Cloudpager client can be configured to point to a local storage source, or an enterprise owned cloud storage like Azure NetApp Files and utilize the applications from there. This may be a requirement for on-premises CVAD customers and provides the agility and scale of the cloud infrastructure for application management whilst keeping the applications stored locally.
Unify Citrix DaaS and CVAD Application Management with Cloudpager’s Integration to Citrix Studio
Cloudpaging application containers provide dynamic application delivery with a rate of compatibility that is unbeaten. App-V optimization and AI Packaging are just two features of Cloudpager that Citrix customers can utilize to modernize their application delivery, Cloudpager also brings features such as comprehensive real-time application usage reporting and more!
