AI Packaging Just Got Smarter with Support for Windows Links

Granular Capture Controls Provide a Smarter Foundation for AI Packaging

Cloudpager’s AI Packaging solution just got even smarter. The latest enhancements to the platform introduce deeper system awareness for faster and cleaner captures.

Enhanced Process Tracking

With the enhanced process tracking, Cloudpaging Studio 9.5 now automatically detects and excludes pre-existing Windows services and drivers during the capture process. The ability to make more context-aware decisions dramatically improves AI Packaging’s reliability and speed.

Enhanced insights into capture processes, such as when an application’s main installer and its related child processes have finished, eliminate unnecessary delays.

Enhanced Process Tracking Extends to Cloudpaging Studio 9.5

For packagers leveraging Cloudpaging Studio 9.5, if any processes remain when a capture is manually stopped, Studio now identifies them and prompts for termination to reduce the risk of in-use assets during cloudification.

Native Support for Windows Links

The most powerful enhancement to our application packaging technologies is full support for Windows Links. Yes, this includes Symbolic Links, Hard Links, and Junction Points. If you’re unfamiliar, let’s dive into a quick overview:

  • Symbolic Links can point to files or directories and operate across volumes or network paths, behaving as if the target exists in the linked location.
  • Hard Links create multiple directory entries for the same file data on disk, ensuring that content remains accessible until all linked references are removed.
  • Junction Points apply to directories on local volumes and are often used for redirection or maintaining compatibility across versions or environments.

So, why is support for these so important in the context of AI Packaging?

Windows links offer powerful ways to reference files and directories directly within the file system. Unlike shortcuts, which are separate files containing path information, these link types are transparent to applications and integral to how many enterprise and engineering solutions manage shared resources. By accounting for them, AI Packaging coverage can be extended to some of the most complex Windows applications on the market.

For example, Symbolic Links and Junction Points are increasingly used by complex applications like Autodesk® products to dynamically reference shared files. Previously, packaging these links required custom scripts or post-capture edits, introducing risk and requiring significant time from application packagers to script and test each package.

For AI Packaging, this unlocks new levels of intelligence. Our AI now understands how these links function within the Windows file system and can automatically replicate them when generating appsets.

No custom scripts. No manual intervention.

This enhancement dramatically reduces the potential for packaging errors while ensuring greater compatibility with complex engineering, CAD, and enterprise software suites.

Cloudpaging Studio 9.5 Provides These Capabilities to Application Packagers

The release of Cloudpaging Studio 9.5 extends all these capabilities to application packagers, as well. Studio now automatically detects, records, and reproduces all three Windows link types during packaging. These links are visible within an updated “Shortcuts and Links” view, providing full visibility into how applications reference their dependencies.

AI Packaging is Faster, Leaner, and Future-Ready

These updates provide AI Packaging with a richer, more complete understanding of the application environment — allowing it to package complex software faster, more accurately, and with less human input.

  • Capture Control Enhancements: Smarter detection and process management for cleaner captures.
  • Windows Link Awareness: Full automation and visibility for Symbolic, Hard, and Junction link types.
  • Smarter Process Logging: Detailed tracking of processes, IDs, and paths for AI learning and optimization.
  • Cleaner Environments: Automatic exclusion of redundant system services and drivers.

Together, these advancements strengthen AI Packaging’s ability to autonomously containerize and deploy even the most complex Windows applications with greater speed and reliability.
